Obama Promises Tough Rules for Lobbist - Promise Broken

WASHINGTON, By Fredreka Schouten, — Companies and groups hiring lobbying firms on health issues nearly doubled this year as special interests rushed to shape the massive revamp of the nation's health care system now in its final stretch before Congress.

About 1,000 organizations have hired lobbyists since January, compared with 505 during the same period in 2008, according to a USA TODAY analysis of congressional records compiled by the nonpartisan CQ MoneyLine.

Overall, health care lobbying for Obama's plan has increased, exceeding $422 million during the first ninth months of the year, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks money in politics. That's more than any other industry and a nearly 10% jump over the same period in 2008. The center's Dave Levinthal said the frenzy of new lobbying activity makes financial sense.
"If lobbying didn't work, people wouldn't do it," he said.

The vast scope of the health care legislation, which cleared a major hurdle Saturday when the Senate voted 60-39 to begin debating it, has spurred some to lobby for the first time. Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, Conn., a 137-bed long-term care facility, decided it needed professional help after scrambling last year — aided by state lawmakers — to avoid losing Medicare payments, said Janine Epright, hospital chief financial officer. "It was an eye-opener," she said of the Medicare fight. "We realized that we didn't have enough pull individually or as an industry to drive the process" in Washington. Epright said the non-profit hospital will spend about $50,000 on lobbying.

But Keane said the group is not easing off its lobbying efforts yet. "You never relax until a piece of legislation, especially one of this magnitude, has reached the president's desk and you are not in it."

Why would the government be scared of just a question?

White House advisers pledged on Sunday to book administration officials on Fox News despite claims by the president's inner circle that the cable network is a GOP mouthpiece whose programming "is geared toward making money."

Last week, White House communications director Anita Dunn said Fox News operates "almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party." On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, said, "It is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective."

In response to the criticism, Fox News executive Michael Clemente on Sunday accused the White House of continuing to "declare war on a news organization" rather than focusing on issues such as jobs and health care.

Fox News commentators Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity have been strong Obama critics, and Bill O'Reilly has taken tough looks at the administration. Obama avoided "Fox News Sunday" when he visited five Sunday morning news shows last month; three aides carried the administration's message on Afghanistan, health care and the economy this Sunday to ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC, but not Fox; and a recent White House blog post accused Beck of lying.

Karl Rove, a Fox News contributor and former White House adviser to President George W. Bush, said the Obama administration is trying to demonize Fox News for asking questions officials do not like. He compared Obama's approach to that of President Richard Nixon, who included journalists on an "enemies list."

New Federal Law Imposes Regulations on Garage Sales

Americans who slap $1 price tags on their used possessions at garage sales or bazaar events risk being slapped with fines of up to $15 million, thanks to a new government campaign.

If you're planning a garage sale or organizing a church bazaar, you'd best beware: You could be breaking a new federal law. As part of a campaign called Resale Roundup, the federal government is cracking down on the secondhand sales of any product with a recall.

Lothrop's daughter, Laura, was upset about four years ago when Mattel changed the clothing for many of the Polly Pocket dolls from a rubber-type material to plastic and inserted small magnets to hold it on the figures.

Now, Nancy and Laura Lothrop must do a painstaking inventory of her collection, searching for tiny model numbers to see whether they match any of the recalled items. If they find matches, they'll pull the recalled dolls and accessories from the group that they're selling.

Nancy Lothrop, though, doesn't quite understand why the dolls are being singled out.

"Many toys have small pieces that could be dangerous," she said. "My son played with army men, Lego blocks, all kinds of things with little parts. A toddler can put anything in his mouth. Parents need to have common sense. Ultimately, the parent needs to really evaluate and be watchful of what the child is playing with. We as consumers have to be careful. It really comes back to us."

The crackdown affects sellers ranging from major thrift-store operators such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army to everyday Americans cleaning out their attics for yard sales, church bazaars or — increasingly — digital hawking on eBay, Craigslist and other Web sites.

Secondhand sellers now must keep abreast of ALL recalls for THOUSANDS of products, some of them stretching back more than a decade, to stay within the bounds of the law.

What can you ask is just as important as the health care reform? How about the appointment of 1 man. Cass Sunstein is Obama's pick for Regulatory Czar. Here are just a few of his public beliefs.

1. Sunstein believes in regulating hunting out of existence. He told a Harvard audience in 2007 that “we ought to ban hunting.” In Sunstein’s plan, animals should have just as many rights as people … and they should be able to sue humans in court via a government appointed attorney! <-- Kooky

2. Sunstein has been quoted "Almost all gun control legislation is constitutionally fine…. Citizens should not be so confident in their enthusiasm for invalidating gun control legislation." Hmm, what part of “shall not be infringed” does Sunstein not understand?

What will the "Regulatory Czar" do: He regulates laws — past, present and future. He tweaks them.

What could that mean to you? Well, consider that Sunstein is a man who doesn't believe we should be eating meat; a man who believes that animals should be provided attorney's in courts of law; a man that believes that everyone must be an organ donor; a man who believes that maybe you shouldn't be able to remove rats from your home, if it causes them any pain. Cass Sunstein doesn't have to pass a law to ban meat, he just works with the environmental agencies to make sure feed is tougher to obtain, grazing lands are more protected and it's much more difficult to ship. So ranchers can't graze their cattle.

In what seems like an uncanny prophetic occurrence, Bill Cunningham asked Tea Party attendees on Saturday if they thought Van Jones ought to step down. The air was filled with the cheers of approving voices. And then news headlines on Sunday announced, "Obama ‘Green Jobs’ Adviser Van Jones Resigns Amid Controversy." Score one for the Tea Party — a major one. Coincidence? Maybe. But I still find the timing very interesting.

Van Jones, the former registered communist turned White House green jobs "czar" in an expletive-laced rant against Republicans calling the a$$holes. Not to mention other racial and anti USA rederick.

Passage of the FSEA into law would amend the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). The bill proposes a substantial increase in power and resources for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and would significantly diminish existing judicial restraints on actions taken by the agency. Although the bill includes some provisions that could improve the mainstream food system, many of these are vaguely worded and do not clearly define the scope of the agency’s power, creating the potential for inappropriate application and enforcement. Small farms and local artisanal producers are part of the solution to the food safety problem in this country; the bill would impose on them a one-size-fits-all regulatory scheme and would disproportionately impact their operations for the worse.

This grab of power by the FDA will allow the following: WARRANTLESS SEARCHES, EXPENSIVE FOOD TRACING SYSTEMS, $100,000 PENALTIES, FARM REGISTRATION FEEs, GARDEN REGULATIONS

H.R. 875 Food Safety Act - criminalizing the backyard gardener

HR 875 The food police, criminalizing organic farming and the backyard gardener

I have no doubt that this legislation was heavily influenced by lobbyists from huge food producers. This legislation is so broad based that technically someone with a little backyard garden could get fined and have their property seized. It will affect anyone who produces food even if they do not sell but only consume it. It will literally put all independent farmers and food producers out of business due to the huge amounts of money it will take to conform to factory farming methods. If people choose to farm without industry standards such as chemical pesticides and fertilizers they will be subject to a variety of harassment from this completely new agency that has never before existed. That's right, a whole new government agency is being created just to police food, for our own protection of course.
DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, READ THIS LEGISLATION FOR YOURSELF.

Democrat Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia has introduced two senate bills that may severely regulate personal internet traffic. The Canadian Free Press explains it this way:

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 puts the government in control of the flow of information in this country. The internet would be in the total control of Obama. Barack Obama has advocated a ‘Fairness Doctrine’ for the Internet that would require opposing opinions be linked and also has suggested that angry e-mails should be prevented from being sent by technology that would require a 24-hour cooling off period. — Nowhere in the Constitution does it give our government the right to control the free flow of information! This is just insane..

Obama Says Crack Sentences Unfair to Blacks

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration is asking Congress to close the big gap in prison sentences for dealing crack versus powdered cocaine, a law that critics say is unfair to blacks. "The administration believes Congress' goal should be to completely eliminate the disparity in prison sentences between crack cocaine and powdered cocaine," Breuer said in written testimony to be delivered Wednesday.

Such sentencing reform efforts tend to focus on lowering the mandatory minimum sentences for crack cocaine possession, but in prepared testimony to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs, Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer did not spell out exactly how the administration hopes to make the law more fair..

I just want to publicly say THANK YOU to President Bush for keeping America SAFE post 9-11. He may have not been the best President in other areas but it is a FACT that our interagations stopped multiple bombings and aided in the killing of al qaeda leaders. So, NO Im not sorry we poured water on their mass murdering, suicide bombing asses! As every day & every decision goes by, I can't for the life of me understand why the droves of 'lefties' can't see that Obama is the most un-American, anti-Freedom, un-Constitutional President to ever hold our prestigious office!

BUSH: "I vowed to do everything in my power to keep us safe. ... And with strong allies at our side, we have taken the fight to the terrorists and those who support them," he said. "There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions. But there can be little debate about the results. America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil."

He protected our Nation and prevented another attack on U.S. soil for more than seven years, modernized our national security institutions and tools of war, and bolstered our homeland security. Under the President's watch, numerous terrorist attacks have been prevented in the United States. These include:

An attempt to bomb fuel tanks at JFK airport;
A plot to blow up airliners bound for the East Coast;
